Visions of community

There are some items on your to-do list that seem to hop from one list to the next, magically reappearing but never actually getting crossed off. Items like fix that wobbly chair leg, clean out the pantry, write more often, or take up [insert hipster hobby like home brewing]. Writing is one of those things some many of us want to do more of but in the age of snapchat and twitter we rarely find ourselves sitting down to craft anything longer than a instagram comment.

For years I intended to write more often but never found the time or the right platform to do it on. I would often share this goal of mine with friends or co-workers and they would nod enthusiastically, saying, "me too! But I don’t know where to begin." Root & Roam was born out of these conversations- where other artists expressed a desire to write more, take up photography, and have a place to share there content with other creatives. My hope is that it be a place for the everyday woman to grow her craft in a supportive environment. It's a place where we can support local artists by sharing their stories and take risks with those we know will build us up.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY TO YOU?

Community is offering grace first. It's listening to and learning from everyone you encounter because you never know what story they have to tell. It's being imperfect and knowing that when you fail someone will be there to help you dream again.

WANT TO JOIN THE COMMUNITY?

I’m actively looking for writers, artists, masters of their trade from across the globe to join the contributors of Root & Roam. In a time where walls are being built up between countries and races we need to build communities that reach across those divides and tell a new story.

If you’re interested in becoming a contributor or featured article, please send a note and writing submission to rootandroam@gmail.com.
